INTRODUCTION TO MONET

  • Oscar-Claude Monet was born November 14, 1840 in Paris, France.
  • Monet took pastel and oil painting lessons from Eugene boudin
  • first artist to let his initial impressions

  • in 1874, Monet exhibited a painting of his work called 'impression:Sunrise at the studio of a Paris photographer
WHAT IS IMPRESSIONISM?   


  •  Impressionism is a movement in French painting, which is called optical realism because of its almost scientific interest in the actual visual experience and effect of light and movement on appearance of objects
  •  Exposure to light and/or movement was enough to create a justifiable and fit artistic subject.
  •  Impressionist motto - human eye is a marvelous instrument
